Freedom — is it really what we think?
In Paradox of Freedom, Maria Angela shows the contradictory force that both uplifts and limits. On the one hand, the work exudes a sense of spiritual harmony , as if everything in the universe falls into place, in perfection and liberation.
On the other hand, the viewer is confronted with captivity — the hidden chains that, no matter how far we reach, always hold us. The paradox lies in the realization that we can never really be completely free. The freedom we seek always seems to be obstructed somewhere by our own limitations.
This work is an invitation to reflection.
When is freedom really freedom? And is it perhaps the struggle for it that binds us—even as we believe we are breaking free?
Paradox of Freedom is a visual meditation on the limits of our existence and the search for self-liberation.
