Initiation is Maria Angela's last completed work and exudes a deeply mystical and spiritual energy. The blue face in meditation symbolizes inner peace, while the spiral of DNA strands winds from the pyramids to the serpent's head , signifying transformation and spiritual elevation.
At the bottom, on either side of the canvas, two X's burn , representing self-destruction and burning of the old. The flames mark the transition to a higher consciousness and symbolize the power of letting go for spiritual liberation . These images of transformation represent the moments of deepest change that the body and soul undergo in the journey to the realm of the dead .
The sun , rising or setting, emphasizes the cycle of life and death , of change and renewal . This work calls for introspection: the balance between the earthly and the divine, the inevitable transition we must all make in our own spiritual journey .
